YouTube for School Districts - Age-Restriction based access

Google is making changes to school accounts for non-core Google Apps (YouTube, Maps, etc...NOT Mail, Docs, Drive) based on age.  

***This is designed to provide more protection for students and meet certain compliance requirements.

CVUSD Google accounts that are labeled as "Under 18" will have a "more restricted experience". 

The district has labeled the following:

  • ALL student accounts as Under 18
  • ALL staff accounts as 18 and over. 

*While some students at the High School may be 18+, ALL students will be marked "Under 18".

Student Under 18 accounts will most likely be affected for their YouTube access:   YouTube

Primary and secondary institutions who are under the age of 18 can’t:

  • Create channels, playlists, stories, shorts, or upload videos
  • Watch or create live stream events
  • See or post comments
  • Participate in live chat
  • Buy channel memberships, creator merchandise, movies and TV shows, Super Chat and Super Stickers, or participate in YouTube Giving fundraisers
  • Use apps, including YouTube Go, YouTube Music, YouTube Studio, YouTube TV, and YouTube VR
  • Access other features, including:
    • Cast on TV
    • Connect game accounts
    • Use Incognito mode
    • Get personalized ads
    • Enable or disable Restricted Mode
